So here’s the skinny,
I’ve composed two new unheard and unsung choral pieces. Both will be premiered and workshopped with an illustrious line-up of clinicians:
- Jeff Beal – composer – (House of Cards, Monk, Appaloosa)
- Edie Lehmann Boddicker – vocalist – contractor – conductor (The Voice, Rio 1 & 2, X-Men: First Class)
- Sally Stevens – vocalist – vocal contractor – (J. Edgar, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Watchmen)
- Jeff Lass– pianist – (Dick Tracy)
The 1st Piece is written in the style of something you might hear in a film about the crusades (a la Harry Gregson-Williams‘s tremendous score to Kingdom of Heaven).
The 2nd Piece takes a page from great contemporary musicals (Wicked, Shrek, Rent) and primo a cappella arrangements from The Sing Off.
The Ensemble will feature superlative SAG-AFTRA singers performing the music of Jeff Beal, Nik Robinson, and myself.
This event is being run by The Society of Composers & Lyricists and has been made possible with the help of The American Federation of Musicians/Local 47 (afm.org)
I’d be uttering falsities if I said I wasn’t the least bit anxious about this, but the feeling of excitement and anticipation are definitely trumping the nerves. I’ll be conducting my works myself and am looking forward to the advice the aforementioned panel will offer. Composing is often a reclusive art. This event won’t be. You’re thoughts and prayers are appreciated as I step out of my comfort zone. If you are interested in attending Jan. 30th, click here: SCL Seminar WRITING FOR VOCALS
